Demonstration 6th February 2017 by Robert Dutton

10/03/2017

Amazing demonstration by Robert using mixed media which included Royal Talens acrylic spray paint. Robert attracted a good deal of interest with a couple of people coming from the Lake District. He is such an entertaining and inspiring artist to watch. Think we shall be seeing more of this Leeds based artist.

Christmas Lunch 23rd January 2017

29/01/2017

Members enjoyed a fabulous lunch at the Hawthorn Farm Carvery at Yeadon. Joan Hobson our founder and honorary member gave thanks to Sylvia Sellers on behalf of the members for making all the arrangements and collecting in the monies. Sylvia managed to secure an excellent deal for the members with bottles of free wine, starter, main course and humongous deserts all for £10.00. Well done Sylvia and the staff at Hawthorn Farm.
Yes these cakes are all Barbara's.

Exhibition Nov 5th & 6th 2016

12/01/2017

Another successful exhibition was greatly enjoyed by members and visitors. The club were pleased to make a donation of £153 to the Forget Me Not Cafe a local charity for people with Alzheimer and their carers. If you would like to join them for a chat and coffee they meet at Yeadon Cricket Club on the first Wednesday of the month from 1.30 to 3.00 contact 0113 2504992.

The cafe did a roaring trade, tombola was a great success not to mention the many paintings sold and admired. The public choose a pastel painting, Rosy Reds by Christine Thomas as their favourite. A deserving winner with out a doubt. This is Christine's second such win this year. Another of her pastel paintings was chosen by the public at Menston Art Clubs spring exhibition. Well done Christine.

A big thank you to the many volunteers who worked so hard to make this exhibition a great event for both the members and the visitors. We would like to thank all the visitors who came and enjoyed viewing our work and for taking a painting or craft item home with them. It is such a thrill to know that someone wanted to own a piece of our art work. Thanks for coming and thanks for all your support. See you again next year when we are sure to have a wide choice of art, crafts, cakes and lots more to tempt you. Here is a link to the gallery of pics from the exhibition...

10th October Demonstration with Dave Newbould

11/10/2016

If you have never seen this artist you are missing a treat. Not only is he a very accomplished mixed media artist but so good at telling jokes and anecdotes. Many of his paintings are observations of characterful people and this is also reflected in his witty repartee. One of Yorkshires treasures I would say. The afternoon went much too quickly and was enjoyed by a good crowd of over 30 people both members and visitors. We must do it again soon.

9th October 2016 Workshop With Anthony Barrow

11/10/2016

Some of the clubs members and members from neighbouring clubs, Menston, Horsforth, Farsley and Saltaire enjoyed a full day workshop. This event was organised by Carol Warneford and invites were e-mailed out to other clubs. The Guiseley Theatre venue was perfect and the stage made a great photo of all the artists and their work. Anthony gave two very interesting and inspiring demonstrations. A portrait using charcoal on a gesso ground, rubbing back, applying watery acrylic and rubbing back again. Then a total change, landscape using transparent and opaque acrylic techniques with a pallet knife. Not a brush in sight. Fabulous day.

Christine's pastel painting "Two Glasses of Red" voted by the public as their "Favourite Picture" at the Menston Clubs recent exhibition.
We are so proud that one of our members should receive this honour. Christine sold this painting and another painting. Brilliant, well done! No doubt we shall see some more of Christine's very popular pastel paintings at our exhibition on 5th & 6th November.

Christmas Lunch 2015

15/12/2015

Many of our members enjoyed a Christmas lunch at the White Cross Pub in Guiseley on Monday 14th December. Christine tested us with a very hard art quiz. Not hard for Barbara Slack and the boys who won hands down. Just when our brains thought they couldn't take any more, Frank produced his mind boggling brain teasers - Dingbats. Visual word puzzles. Again Barbara and the boys beat the rest us to pulp. Family watch out I am going to try this game on you lot after a few wines.

04/11/2015

Taken by Frank just before he locked up for the night. Lots of hard work went in to creating this very smart looking exhibition. It was great to see so many members there doing their bit and didn't we do well?

The Day After The Night Before - Exhibition 2015

04/11/2015

The atmosphere was buzzing. Paintings were selling like hot cakes, hot lunches were selling like hot cakes. Tombola stall was maxed out by the end of the day and needed replenishing from Maureen s back up store on Sunday. Crafts were moving so fast Christine had to make some more over night. Phew! Bring it on.

07/09/2015

Back by popular demand is Susan to cheer us all up as the autumn heralds the coming winter. We are still smiling from her dem with us last year . This years dem will not be a repeat of abstract art but will be bound to be something equaly different and unusual. Guaranteed to bring to life the old grey matter. Visitors are most welcome. Admission fee of £5.00 which includes refreshments. Come along and enjoy an afternoon of fun and learning.

Primrose Court Dem July 2015

12/07/2015

Painting with a spoon? Annie Beever from Primrose Court organised an art event for the residents and asked the club if they would do a demonstration. Carol and Christine agreed and Carol gave a demonstration of painting with a spoon in acrylics. Carol had seen a video on u tube of Paul Beattie using this technique. It is a very quick way of laying down and blending paint. The residents enjoyed the dem and also displayed some of their own work which was of a very high standard.

Chinese Brush Painting Dem 1st June 2015

01/06/2015

Anne Allen a well known local artist who excels in this type of painting gave a very interesting and entertaining demonstration. Anne is an exceptionally talented artist who is very experienced and skilled in the delicate art of Chinese Brush Painting. We had a full house and thoroughly enjoyed this dem. Anne never fails to delight and brought with her a number of her works for us to admire.

Aireborough Festival Feb 2015

14/02/2015

The club had a stall at the Community Festival held in Guiseley Town Hall. Members' paintings and leaflets publicising the club were on the stall manned by some of the club members. Sales were slow but there was much interest shown by visitors which will hopefully lead to a new member or two. Well done guys, much appreciated.

We enjoyed a lovely meal in a festive atmosphere at the White Cross Pub.

Susan Ross Dem & Workshop Sep 2014

01/09/2014

Very enjoyable abstract art dem and workshop by local artist. Susan Ross gave an exuberant and accomplished demonstration. Members were enthralled by her lively and thought provoking presentation of abstract art. In the second half of the session members had the opportunity to produce their own abstract painting. A first for many of us but judging by the positive comments we may see a few more abstract paintings at our next exhibition 1st and 2nd November 2014 at the Methodist Church on Oxford Road Guiseley.

Donation honours ex-member Pat Hunt

14/07/2014

Liz Hunt the widow of Pat presented a cheque for £530 pounds to Cath Barker of Leonard Cheshire Disability. Liz gave to the club Pat's remaining art materials and the club sold these to the members to raise the donation. The charity was favoured by Pat's widow Liz, because of its support for their disabled granddaughter. Pat was a well liked and respected member of the club who is very much missed by us all.
